The main data protection statutory instrument in Botswana is the Data Protection Act which came into force in 2018. The compliance deadline for data controllers is the 17th September 2024. What this means is that any organization (known as the data controller) that processes the personal data of its clients or customers (known as data subjects)  has until that date to have complied with the requirements for processing personal data as stipulated by the Act
